Great tips on moving to Hong Kong

Remember to check these items before deciding on your property
Location  
  • Assess public transportation links and proximity to main districts like Central, Wanchai and Causeway Bay
  • If a shuttle bus is available, obtain a shuttle bus schedule.
  • Identify the locality of nearby essential, convenience stores, restaurants, bars, banks, hospitals, clinics and sports centres.
  • Locate outdoor leisure areas such as parks, playgrounds, barbeque sites and beaches.
Space  
  • Can all the furniture from your old property fit into the new property? Can you get large sofas, beds and tables upstairs and through doorways? What about pianos?
  • Check if the utilities areas are big enough for those big foreign appliances such as dryers and washing machines
  • Is there enough hanging space in the wardrobes? Check whether the wardrobes are wide enough to hang all of your clothes.
Electrical & mechanical fittings  
  • Check for any water leakage throughout the apartment.
  • The water flow, pressure and quality are sufficient and constant.
  • Check to see if all the A/C units and appliances are in working condition. Make sure the A/C temperature is cool and the noise is acceptable.
  • Check the locations of socket locations for telephones, TVs aerials and computers.
  • Is cable TV connected? If not can it be? What TV Channels are provided by the building management?
Security  
  • Ensure the security systems and alarm installations are fitted and in working order and that the estate is adequately manned with competent security personnel.
  • Note the fire escape route of the building and ensure there is a working fire alarm installed.
  • Check door locks are secure.
  • Check to see if all the windows are in working order. Review window safety locks for security and child safety.
Environment  
  • Verify if there is any future large-scale refurbishment, renovation or redevelopment plan in the estate, or if there are any construction sites or indeed any activity near the estate which may cause potential disruption or disturbance.
  • Does the property management expect any unit to undergo any major renovation work in the near future?
Residential Management  
  • Find out what the procedure is regarding advising the property management of your move in date.
  • See if the property management provide a handbook for occupants
  • Clarify any clubhouse regulations and charges.
  • If you are a pet owner check if the estate has any regulations regarding pets. Many residences do not permit dogs.
